JoAnn Bassett grew up in Seattle, but always preferred palm trees to pine trees. She wrote training programs for firefighters for almost twenty years, but always hoped to make a day at the beach an everyday event. In 1996, she bought an oceanfront home on Maui–best day ever. She loved every day she spent there, but now lives mostly in Southern Arizona (her husband wasn’t the island rat she was…). She travels to the islands throughout the year, and enjoys writing about life on “the most idyllic islands in the Pacific.”
