Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021!

Never before have we been quite so happy to ring in a new year! With glee, we say “Goodbye 2020, hello 2021!”

Feeling hopeful about this coming year, we thought we’d share with you some of our goals, resolutions, and/or themes for 2021.

First up is…

Kathy (K.B.) Owen

Each new year, I reset my personal reminder to search for one aspect to appreciate whenever I’m tempted to feel stressed by something minor.

goodbye 2020 hello 2021

(I tend toward the anxious side…if there were a super power for it, I’d be Anxiety Girl 😉 )

For example, sometimes my to-do list seems as deep as that pile of clean laundry I’ve been procrastinating on folding…but aww, look how adorable and content our kitty is, all burrowed into the towels!

See…it’s a good thing I didn’t fold them.

Wink, wink

A friend of mine, instead of making resolutions, picks a focus word for the year.

Last year her word was MANIFEST. (Argh, what was she thinking in 2020?) Her word for 2021 is REDEEM.

Following her lead, I’m going to select a single word as a sort of 2021 mantra. My word will be CREATE.

goodbye 2020 hello 2021

Ironic that Vinnie should mention picking a word for the year.

I had actually decided last week that instead of a resolution for 2021, I was going to pick a theme. My word is HOLY.

It came to me while I was staring at a sandhill crane in our backyard the other day.

Life is so full of miracles and things taken for granted—this year I want to pay more attention to every tiny miracle that crosses my path.

I was determined to get my next Nikki Latrelle racing mystery finished, with the goal of publication in early 2021.

That didn’t happen.

Instead, 2020 happened, with oh so many challenges.

So now I am renewing my resolution to finish SHOOTING STAR and have it published with misterio press in 2021!

(Here’s a sneak peek at the cover.)

Interesting that most of us are picking “words” this year (but I guess not surprising since we are writers; words are our thing!)

My word would be Self-Care. With that as my title of my resolutions list, I have several things on there, mostly related to checking in with myself more often and making sure I’m taking good care of myself.

goodbye 2020 hello 2021

One of them is the promise to put on warm socks every morning this winter. Because I live in northern Florida, our weather fluctuates quite a bit in winter. Any given day can be in the high seventies or not get out of the forties. I have a tendency to not don socks right away, to see if I really need them that day.

All too often, my feet turn to ice cubes before I notice that yes, I do indeed need to wear socks today. Then it takes forever for my feet to get warm again. So this year, I’m going to start out with socks on, and take them off if the day gets too warm.

I have some other grander goals in mind as well this year, to achieve better self-care, but I’m going to start with socks!

What are your goals/resolutions as we say goodbye 2020, hello 2021? Or do you like the idea of a single word to capture the theme of the year? What’s your word?

I really love that we’re all choosing to be kind to ourselves, to create, enjoy life and do what makes us happy instead of trying to fulfill some lofty, punishing goals! Happy 2021, ladies!

Amen, Shannon. If ever there was a year when we should be kind to ourselves, it’s this one!

I have had same goal for past couple of years and that is decluttering projects. for me 2020 i was able to get a big bulk of it done and donated to local program for people in need. i am continuing in 2021 to declutter and plan to donate and sell some to get ahead.

Decluttering is always a good goal, Jodi. I’ve been cleaning out closets lately and now have a very messy garage instead…lol. It’s full of bags and boxes of stuff to take to Goodwill.
